Ria, a conflicted mixed race college student, finds magic from being a part of multiple cultures. When her goddess mentor reveals that Ria is a bruja, she embarks on a fantastic journey across lands and times: Ria helps the resistance of the Philippine Revolution, risks the pyre at the English witch trials, and faces la muerte during the Mexican Revolution. Through her travels facing the constant threat of the Shadow, Ria learns the meaning of self-acceptance and resistance.
